Victor Davis Hanson, PJM: “President Obama’s New American Vocabulary

“Of all the many changes that the Obama administration has enacted over the last five years, the least remarked upon are the strange changes in our vocabulary. To fathom the shifting meaning of words, here is a guide to the new Obama lexicon.

“Affordable Care Act: Mostly unaffordable, uncaring, and inactive.

“Assault Weapon: Paint your .22 black and add a plastic handle.

“Associated Press: Leakers who dared to challenge the White House monopoly.

“Baby: Punishment for a mistake.

Rushbo:  Morsi  in America

“”In a Nutshell, a lot of my dear American friends still ask me what on earth really happened in Egypt. For their benefit, and anyone else on earth genuinely trying to make heads or tails of us ‘crazy Egyptians,’ here’s exactly what happened in Egypt over the past 12 months, but expressed in ‘American’ terms…

“There are no exaggerations or lies. These events all took place: On June 30th 2012, democratically elected Barack Obama wins the election with 51.7%, takes the oath, and is sworn in as president of the United States.” Actually it’s about Morsi, but you get the drift.  “First five months of [Obama’s] term go relatively smoothly, where he makes almost no decisions (except for some dubious presidential pardons to a dozen convicted terrorists, including some convicted for their part in the assassination of a former US president).”

“Not the assassination attempt, the actual assassination. So Morsi pardoned terrorists who took part in the assassination of a previous Egyptian president. “Suddenly, on November 21st 2012, President Obama issues a presidential decree giving himself sweeping powers, to the extent that his future decrees become un-contestable in any court. In effect, his decisions henceforth are akin to the word of God, his laws a new Bible…

“Nationwide protests erupt as a result of this decree and 1.5 million people organize a sit-in at the White House to peacefully request he rescind it.  Some of Obama’s Democratic Party supporters attack the peaceful sit-in outside the White House with guns and shoot five peaceful protesters dead. A few weeks later, President Obama dissolves the US Supreme Court and labels them all ‘traitors to America.'”

If you’re just joining me, this is a description of what happened in Egypt in the last 12 months, as though it happened here. “One short week later,” after dissolving the Supreme Court, “he fires the United States District Attorney and personally appoints a Democrat to replace him.  A month later he annuls the US Constitution and forms a ‘constitutional committee’ to draft a new constitution (committee includes no Republicans or independents, no Muslims or Jews, and only a handful of women…)

“In a referendum not supervised by any judicial branch, this constitution narrowly wins, and President Obama ratifies it the very next morning (despite it having only gotten the approval of 18% of all Americans).  Within a month he invites top global terrorists, known jihadists and Al-Qaeda members from all over the world, to a rally in Yankee Stadium, where he cuts ties with and declares war on Canada.

“Throughout this whole time, the US economy is sinking, the stock market collapsing, foreign investment has all but stopped, tourism has died, and electricity, fuel, and water shortages are a daily occurrence.  Unemployment has almost doubled, and the US dollar has lost 20% of its value globally.  Oh, and President Obama also outlines his new plans to lease the entire Silicon Valley area to China for 50 years …

“Democratically elected President Barack Obama has done all the above in his FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE!!!  Ultimately, on June 30th, 2013 110 million Americans,” just over a third of the population, “take to the streets in fifty States peacefully and politely demanding — for four straight days — that democratically elected Obama leave immediately, and not continue his remaining three years.  That’s it, in a nutshell…

Salena Zito, RCP: Fault Lines in Democrat Party

“. . . The days of blaming Republicans for getting America into its economic mess have passed, mainly because Democrats are not accruing any credit for getting us out of it. In fact, Democrats don’t have much to brag about at all with Barack Obama’s presidency; if we continue limping along with slow growth for the next few years, they will be hard pressed to make the argument that their party is better for the country than the GOP.

“Another problem for Democrats is that they have allowed Obama to build a separate machine with Organizing for Action (OFA), his leftover campaign apparatus, modeled on former presidential candidate Howard Dean’s Democracy for America.

“The trouble with such candidate machines is that they fundamentally are not party organs; their supporters back the individual candidates who founded them, not the party.

“The dirty little secret, which no Democrat ever admits on the record, is that the OFA exists essentially because the party is no longer working. So OFA has taken over the party and refashioned it from the ground up around Obama.

“This will have a devastating impact on the party because it has enabled OFA to act as a predator, while the party has failed to groom its own partisan bench for the future.

Then there is the Michael Bloomberg factor: The New York mayor’s anti-gun lobby hurts Democrats by supporting only pro-gun-control elected officials, essentially shrinking the Democrats’ coalition.

“Finally, there’s the disconnect that Democrats have encountered with blue-collar whites and Main Street voters. . .”

Peter Wehner, Commentary: “Barack Obama’s Lawlessness

“Both Charles Krauthammer and Ramesh Ponnuru have spoken about the lawlessness of the Obama administration. Examples include (but are not limited to) unilaterally delaying implementation of the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate, issuing health-care edicts that undermine the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, making unconstitutional “recess appointments” to the National Labor Relations Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, refusing to enforce current immigration laws related to illegal immigrants who were brought to America as children, and waving welfare work requirements.

“This is all part of a pattern in which Mr. Obama enforces laws he likes and refuses to enforce (or unilaterally alters) laws he disagrees with. I suppose the temptation to act as a potentate is understandable; but it also happens to be illegal. The president, after all, has the constitutional duty to “take care that the Laws be faithfully executed” (see Article II, Section 3 for more).

“One of the reasons there isn’t a firestorm of protest against the president’s contempt for the rule of law is that that apart from a few honorable exceptions, the press doesn’t care and therefore isn’t covering this story. .  .”

Corrie MacLaggin, Reuters: “Texas passes abortion restriction bill, governor certain to sign”

“(Reuters) – Texas’ Republican-controlled Senate has voted to ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, ending a high-profile political battle that stirred debate over abortion rights well beyond the state’s borders.

“Already approved by the House, the sweeping bill to restrict abortions now goes to Republican Governor Rick Perry, who is certain to sign it and had called a second special session of the legislature to get it through.

“It makes Texas the 13th U.S. state to pass a 20-week ban. The 20-week provision is based on disputed research suggesting fetuses feel pain at that point in a pregnancy. Current limits are 26 weeks in Texas.

“The Senate passed the measure late on Friday by a vote of 19 to 11 in front of a full public gallery while protesters yelled and chanted outside the chamber.

“The issue has stirred huge attention, including internationally, in part because of an 11-hour filibuster in June against the bill by state Senator Wendy Davis, a Democrat. Her actions at the time prompted comparisons with the James Stewart movie ‘Mr. Smith Goes To Washington’.

“Despite political support in Texas for the bill, there could be legal hurdles. Courts have blocked the ban in three of the 12 states that passed it, and opponents of the Texas bill vowed to challenge the decision in court. . .”

Melanie Phillips: Jewish Chronicle: “Speak truth? How dare I??

“Recently, I found myself facing a baying mob, aka a booing, sneering audience bristling with outrage and hostility towards me, on Question Time.

“Nothing new there, then.

“So what unpardonable thing had I said this time? Simply that the government’s priority should be to neutralise Iran, since this posed the greatest current threat to Britain and the west.

“The Iranian regime sponsors international terrorism, has been waging war against the west since 1979 and has vowed to wipe out Israel. To those who sweat daily over its progress towards making nuclear weapons, the threat this poses is all too obvious.

While there is legitimate debate about just how to neutralise this threat, that it exists is a given. That’s why western governments have imposed sanctions and are attempting (unwisely, in my view) to persuade the regime not to build the bomb.

“But the audience was incredulous at the very idea Iran was a threat.  .  .”

Pamela Geller, American Freedom Defense Initiative: James McDermott – Most Wanted Terrorists

“Muslim groups wailed and dhimmi Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA) did their bidding. He wrote to the FBI demanding that they pull the campaign, which he claimed was ‘offensive to Muslims and ethnic minorities’ and encouraged “racial and religious profiling.” McDermott claimed that the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list included people of other races and ‘associations with other religions and causes.’ But, he said, ‘their faces are missing from this campaign.’ He said that the ad would “likely only serve to exacerbate the disturbing trend against Middle Eastern, South Asian and Muslim Americans.” What trend? In reality, FBI statistics show that Jews are eight times more likely to be targets of hate crimes than Muslims. And the ad was not unfair: of the FBI’s 32 Most Wanted Terrorists, only two are not Muslims. . .

“So we are going to have to do the FBI’s job for them. We’re taking it upon ourselves to alert the public to the nature and magnitude of the terror threat.

“We’re going to run the same ad on Seattle buses. You are going to make it happen.

“Please help us stand against this politically correct madness, and call the FBI back to what it should be doing: protecting Americans against threats foreign and domestic. Donate via Paypal to The American Freedom Defense Initiative is a 501c3 organization; your contributions are tax-deductible.. . .”

Melanie Phillips: “‘Please Mr Obama, stop supporting terrorists here in Egypt’”

“In all the welter of words about the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, very little has been wrie tten in the mainstream media about the extraordinary contortions of the Obama administration, which did so much to put the Brothers into power there in the first place.

The administration’s first reaction was to threaten to cut off US aid to Egypt in order to punish the military for unseating the Muslim Brother President, Mohamed Morsi.  Then a State Department official vouchsafed that Morsi had been ‘undemocratic’, and the administration backed away from outright confrontation.

Nevertheless, reports persist that the US continues to support the Brothers against the Egyptian military.  As Raymond Ibrahim reports, the US ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, has come to be seen as a Brotherhood stooge . . .

Patrick Howley, Daily Caller: “NAACP calls on Obama admin to pursue civil rights charges against Zimmerman”

Thx Ted,

“The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has called on the Obama administration to pursue civil rights charges against George Zimmerman.

“‘BREAKING: Zimmerman acquitted on all charges. We will update you as we work to pursue civil rights charges against Zimmerman through the DOJ,’ the official Twitter account of the NAACP tweeted Saturday evening after Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin.

“The NAACP also tweeted out a petition urging the Justice Department to ‘open a civil rights case against George Zimmerman. . .’”

Roger Simon, PJM: “Obama Big Loser in Zimmerman Trial

“Forget the over-zealous prosecutors and the repellent state attorney Angela Corey (who should be immediately disbarred or, my wife said sarcastically, elevated to director of Homeland Security) and even the unfortunate Trayvon Martin family (although it is certainly hard to forget them — they have our profound sympathies), the true loser at the Zimmerman trial was Barack Obama.

“By injecting himself in a minor Florida criminal case by implying Martin could be his son, the president of the United States — a onetime law lecturer, of all things — disgraced himself and his office, made a mockery of our legal system and exacerbated racial tensions in our country, making them worse than they have been in years. This is the work of a reactionary, someone who consciously/unconsciously wants to push our nation back to the 1950s.

“It is also the work of a narcissist who thinks of himself first, of his image, not of black, white or any other kind of people. It’s no accident that race relations in our country have gone backwards during his stewardship.

“Congratulations to the jury for not acceding to this tremendous pressure and delivering the only conceivable honest verdict. This case should never have been brought to trial. It was, quite literally, the first American Stalinist ‘show trial.’ . . .”

Rush Limbaugh: Judicial Watch & DoJ

I had a story today. Judicial Watch got ahold of documents from Justice via the Freedom of Information. And there’s a Community Relations Service, part of DOJ, which, by it’s name, is supposed to go down and help facilitate community peace, coming together and so forth. These people, from the DOJ, were down sponsoring rallies prior to this trial, sponsoring people getting together. They bused protesters in Sanford, Florida, from nearby universities. The DOJ, Eric Holder, was invested in this being seen as racism and unfairness and unjustness against this kid Trayvon Martin, and they can’t let go of it. And that’s why there’s wall to wall coverage. This trial, I don’t even think should be taking place. I don’t even think there’s a case here. . . “

Joe Newby, Examiner: “Judicial Watch: Zimmerman prosecution may have been forced by Obama DOJ”

Mark Steyn, NRO: “A Dagger at the Heart of Justice

“Just when I thought the George Zimmerman “trial” couldn’t sink any lower, the prosecutorial limbo dancers of the State of Florida magnificently lowered their own bar in the final moments of their cable-news celebrity. In real justice systems, the state decides what crime has been committed and charges somebody with it. In the Zimmerman trial, the state’s “theory of the case” is that it has no theory of the case: might be murder, might be manslaughter, might be aggravated assault, might be a zillion other things, but it’s something. If you’re a juror, feel free to convict George Zimmerman of whatever floats your boat.

“Nailing a guy on something, anything, is a time-honored American tradition . . .”

Rich Lowry, NRO: “A Morality Tale That Failed”

“The George Zimmerman trial is the racial metaphor that failed.

“Every day that passes makes it clear that none of the ideological baggage heaped on the case ever made any sense.

“George Zimmerman is not a symbol of white America, or — to borrow the stilted phrase The New York Times used to refer to him in its reports — white-Hispanic America. The case is not about race relations. Incredibly enough, even the attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family now says, ‘We don’t believe the focus was really race.’

“To the extent that the trial has any larger meaning, it is a tale of the left’s desperation to indict contemporary America as a land of rank racism, different in degree, perhaps, but not in kind from 1950s Mississippi. That’s where Emmett Till, to whom Trayvon Martin has often been compared, was brutally murdered for whistling at a white woman.

“Mentioning Martin in the same breath as Till is an offense against history and common sense.

“When the national controversy over Martin’s killing first erupted, I thought it was wrong that Zimmerman wasn’t charged. I still think it was foolhardy of Zimmerman to get out of his car and trail Martin and that if he had had the sense to leave the matter at his call to the police, a tragedy could have been avoided.

“But that doesn’t make him a murderer. . .”

Paul Bedard, Washington Examiner: “Amnesty’s price: $12,433 for every legalized immigrant household”

THX Ted,

“. . . Heritage is highlighting a chart that details the taxes paid and government services received by all Americans, including illegal immigrants. It shows that after amnesty, immigrants will cost governments $12,433 in benefits over the taxes they pay per year. Over a lifetime of an adult illegal granted amnesty, the difference between benefits received and taxes paid would be a cost to taxpayers of $592,000.

Buried in a report from Robert Rector, the conservative foundation’s authority on poverty, welfare programs and immigration, the chart details taxes paid and benefits received by households headed by an illegal immigrant and how that will change after amnesty is granted.

The bottom line: Households of those granted amnesty will pay $15,071 in taxes and receive benefits of $27,504, a difference of $12,433 covered by taxpayers.

Melanie Phillips: “Hope on the death pathway, but a hole at Britain’s heart”

“According to advance reports, the Government will announce today the end of the deeply controversial Liverpool Care Pathway.
“The LCP was written as a treatment programme for doctors and nurses when looking after people who are dying.
“Such a programme was deemed necessary because of the all-too-common instances of neglect or inappropriate treatment which dying people were being forced to suffer.
“However, the scheme became mired in bitter controversy after relatives and patients claimed that the LCP was being used to accelerate death, or even to kill patients who were not dying at all by starving and dehydrating them until they did, in fact, die.
“Worse still were claims of financial incentives for hospital trusts to bump up the LCP numbers.
“Despite vehement protests by the medical and nursing professions that these claims were unfounded, the Government set up an inquiry into the practice.
“It is expected to report today that there were numerous instances of abuse under the LCP, and to say that it should be phased out, a recommendation with which the Care and Support Minister, Norman Lamb, will agree.
“If this is indeed the case, it will be a signal victory for this newspaper, which highlighted these abuses and kept hammering away about the need to bring the LCP to an end. . .”

Eric Boehm, PA Independent: “Feds to spend $4 million promoting Obamacare at Pennsylvania health clinics”

“HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania health clinics are picking up a cool $4 million from the federal government to help promote the Affordable Care Act.

“The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the grants on Wednesday. The federal government plans to spend more than $150 million in grants to 1,100 heath centers and clinics across the county.

“In Pennsylvania, 38 grants totaling more than $4.1 million will be awarded. The funding is supposed to create 76 jobs, at a cost of about $53,000 per job.

“Here’s a handy map showing where the grants will be doled out. No surprise here, most of them are in the Philadelphia area and Pittsburgh. By our count, $1.1 million of the grants are earmarked for the City of Brotherly Love. . .”

Magee & Gibson, PoliticsPA: “Corbett, PAGOP Pivot to Obamacare”

“Late this week saw a concerted effort by Gov. Tom Corbett and the Pa. Republican party to pivot the attention of the party base to an issue where the GOP has some momentum: Obamacare.

Corbett and his party are jumping on a delay in a key Affordable Care Act provision. But, their attempts to impede the law’s implementation is not without risk.

Earlier this month, the White House announced that a requirement for business to provide health insurance would be delayed until 2015. Shortly thereafter, Republicans seized the announcement as confirmation that the ACA is bad policy.

“Thursday, Gov. Corbett and Pa. Republicans followed suit. . . “
