Tell Sam Rohrer! Heck! Tell Everybody!
Thanks Lou.
“The Berks County Patriots put an ad in the local “Merchandiser” inviting anyone wanting to take their country back. We offered a light lunch of hotdogs and sauerkraut and we set up for about 300 people on a Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
“Attendees started to stream in about 1:30 and they were coming so fast and so many, we had to give up on the registration and just told them to take a seat and we would try to pass a registration book during the meeting. The people stood shoulder to shoulder (my estimate was about 800 with many hundreds more not able to get in at all or who got discouraged and went home.) The parking lot filled and the traffic backed up to the main Rt. 61.
“We had several candidates speak and the officers spoke explaining what we were all about and our objectives. We passed the hat for expenses and I saw many, many large bills freely donated. Everyone seemed to be more than willing to be contacted, to become more involved, and to serve in different ways. It is my feeling that a great many of these people were not computer savvy and had no way of knowing about these movements other than what they read in local papers.
“These people are for the most part semi-rural and many of them gun-loving, outdoor-loving people and a rich source of patriots.
“A second meeting was held last Friday at 6:00 and likewise advertised in the “Merchandiser” Despite the bad weather and the change of time, we drew another 500 people.
“A lot of people are not getting their information from the internet but would love to participate – seniors are a big part of this group. The trouble we have now is how to keep them engaged so we don’t lose them before election time.” Yvonne Lepiane
U.K.: Daniel Hannan opens his own TEA Party to standing room only!
Thanks Lou, especially for this!
“Labour has raised more than a trillion pounds in additional taxation since 1997. Yet, unbelievably, Gordon Brown has still managed to run up a deficit of 12.6 per cent of GDP (Greece’s is 12.7 per cent). A far lower level of taxation brought Americans out in spontaneous protest last year.
“If you happen to be coming to the Conservative Spring Conference, do please pop in: the Tea Party is five minutes’ walk from the conference venue. It is, however, outside the security zone, and anyone is welcome to come. Oh, and this being England, we’ll be serving actual, you know, tea. I hope to see some of this blog’s readers there.” http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danielhannan/100027366/british-tea-party-movement-to-launch-on-saturday
Guzzardi: “Murtha Navy Yard”?
“To name a military facility after someone who smeared the Haditha Marines with unsubstantiated accusations during a time of war is despicable. John Murtha’s involvement with ABSCAM and then Earmarking scandal with PMA are almost as disgraceful. Please let John Murtha rest in peace and let us rest in peace and discard this truly disgraceful initiative. Frankly, I would like to think this is an Internet hoax but I am afraid it is not. Bob Guzzardi
“Local Democrat politicians this week will propose naming the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard after deceased politician John Murtha. This is the same man who called our Marines in Iraq “murderers” in 2006. I am calling on every military member I know to vocally and directly oppose the renaming of the PNS after a man who publicly tried and convicted our brave Marines prior to any official investigation. Jack Murtha was wrong about our Marines as it turns out, and was also named as a non-indicted co-conspirator in the ABSCAM investigations into public official corruption. These are not the actions and track record of man who should be honored in this way. Kevin Kelly, F-16 pilot.”

Senator Tom Coburn: The Real Problem Is…
“In the past two years, an institution supposedly paralyzed by gridlock has succeeded in passing the most consequential pieces of legislation it handles every year — appropriations bills — by 3-to-1 margins. In the past few weeks, Congress has increased the debt limit from $12.1 trillion to $14.3 trillion but made no effort to eliminate any wasteful or duplicative spending. Since 1994, both parties have worked together to create 90,000 new earmarks, with only a handful of earmarks going down to defeat.
“The problem, therefore, is not gridlock. The problem is that Congress is working in a bipartisan fashion to make our economic future less secure. The facts show that Congress is controlled by a supermajority of members from both parties who believe it is fine to borrow and spend far beyond our means and avoid hard choices.”

Steyn: “When Responsibility Doesn’t Pay”
“What’s happening in the developed world today isn’t so very hard to understand: The 20th-century Bismarckian welfare state has run out of people to stick it to. In America, the feckless, insatiable boobs in Washington, Sacramento, Albany, and elsewhere are screwing over our kids and grandkids. In Europe, they’ve reached the next stage in social-democratic evolution: There are no kids or grandkids to screw over. The United States has a fertility rate of around 2.1 — or just over two kids per couple. Greece has a fertility rate of about 1.3: Ten grandparents have six kids have four grandkids — i.e., the family tree is upside down. Demographers call 1.3 “lowest-low” fertility — the point from which no society has ever recovered. And, compared to Spain and Italy, Greece has the least worst fertility rate in Mediterranean Europe.
“So you can’t borrow against the future because, in the most basic sense, you don’t have one. Greeks in the public sector retire at 58, which sounds great. But, when ten grandparents have four grandchildren, who pays for you to spend the last third of your adult life loafing around?
“By the way, you don’t have to go to Greece to experience Greek-style retirement: The Athenian ‘public service’ of California has been metaphorically face-down in the ouzo for a generation.”

BO Needs the Godless
This sort of thinking helped Europe – and lately Greece – to become fine places …
“President Barack Obama has burnished his Christian credentials, courted Jewish support and preached outreach toward Muslims. On Friday, his administration will host a group that fits none of the above: America’s nonbelievers.
“The president isn’t expected to make an appearance at the meeting with the Secular Coalition for America or to unveil any new policy as a result of it.
“Instead, several administration officials will sit down quietly for a morning meeting at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House campus with about 60 workhorses from the coalition’s 10 member groups, including the American Atheists and the Council for Secular Humanism. Tina Tchen, the director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, and representatives from the Justice and Health and Human Services departments will participate.
“Coalition leaders are billing their visit as an important meeting between a presidential administration and the “nontheist” community. On the agenda are three policy areas: child medical neglect, military proselytizing and faith-based initiatives.”

“Inclusive” Coffee Party Perks
“Annabel Park did what any American does when she feels her voice has been drowned out: She squeezed her anger into a Facebook status update.
“…let’s start a coffee party . . . smoothie party. red bull party. anything but tea. geez. ooh how about cappuccino party? that would really piss ‘em off bec it sounds elitist . . . let’s get together and drink cappuccino and have real political dialogue with substance and compassion.
“The snowballing response made her the de facto coordinator of Coffee Party USA, with goals far loftier than its oopsy-daisy origin: promote civility and inclusiveness in political discourse, engage the government not as an enemy but as the collective will of the people, push leaders to enact the progressive change for which 52.9 percent of the country voted in 2008.” Eaagh!

Judge Roy Moore – So Help Me God; Bat Ye’or – Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis
I bought the first, autographed, in Nashville, the second at Alibris and found resonance between them.
In 2003, Moore defied an order from a federal judge to stop praying before hearings and lost his seat as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Moore’s point: an acknowledgement of God has been in our legal customs since 1215 (the Magna Charta) and through Blackstone’s Legal Commentaries (1780) into our Declaration, our opening ceremonies for governmental functions, and, finally, onto our money.
Bat Ye’or is the pseudonym of Gisèle Orebi-Littman, an Egyptian Jew, chased from her homeland by Muslims. (“I had witnessed the destruction, in a few short years, of a vibrant Jewish community living in Egypt for over 2,600 years and which had existed from the time of Jeremiah the Prophet.” She now lives in Switzerland and has a string of books about the Islamization of Europe.
Charles de Gaulle, omitted from 1945’s Yalta Conference and offended by that omission, decided that the glory of France lay with African and Mid Easterners and with opening her future to Islam in exchange for oil. … Israel and the United States … became the adversary for both Europe and for Islam.
…Obama’s now in the White House and the United States commits European suicide as if that were the latest good thing…”

About The Panty Bomber: “England is a Cesspit”
“What did the 76-year-old Mr. Soyinka—who divides his time between the U.S. and Nigeria—make of his country’s placement on a watch-list of states deemed to be incubators of Islamist terrorism? “That was an irrational, knee-jerk reaction by the Americans. The man did not get radicalized in Nigeria. It happened in England, where he went to university.
“‘England is a cesspit. England is the breeding ground of fundamentalist Muslims. Its social logic is to allow all religions to preach openly. But this is illogic, because none of the other religions preach apocalyptic violence. (emph added, jb) And yet England allows it. Remember, that country was the breeding ground for communism, too. Karl Marx did all his work in libraries there…”

Al Gore and the DSM IV
“We can’t wish away climate change”
“I, for one, genuinely wish that the climate crisis were an illusion. But unfortunately, the reality of the danger we are courting has not been changed by the discovery of at least two mistakes in the thousands of pages of careful scientific work over the last 22 years by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, the crisis is still growing because we are continuing to dump 90 million tons of global-warming pollution every 24 hours into the atmosphere — as if it were an open sewer.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/28/opinion/28gore.html
Psychiatry’s diagnosis guide, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 4th Edition, remarks: “The distinction between a delusion and a strongly-held idea is sometimes difficult to make and depends on the degree of conviction with which the belief is held despite clear contradictory evidence…Delusions are deemed bizarre if they are clearly implausible and not understandable and do not derive from ordinary life experiences.” p. 275. This language is applied to paranoid schizophrenia, a subtle disorder in which the ordinary confusions and bumbling of “ordinary” schizophrenia are absent. Unusual coherence becomes a danger sign!
Warning! On the one hand I am a clinical psychologist; on the other, I have made no professional evaluation of Mr. Gore. I am here an ordinary taxpayer who thinks he’s nuts…
George Will: On the DSM V
The Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM) is the checklist psychiatrists use to label whomever shows in their offices. It is also a quickie summary when you collect from insurance companies or send excuses to judges. It can even tip you off for other things to check if Janie screams too much or Phil beats the kids.
The Fifth Edition comes soon and clinicians race to the bookstores while the real hustlers create CDs or organize workshops and plan how much to charge….
“Today’s DSM defines “oppositional defiant disorder” as a pattern of “negativistic, defiant, disobedient and hostile behavior toward authority figures.” Symptoms include “often loses temper,” “often deliberately annoys people” or “is often touchy.” DSM omits this symptom: “is a teenager.”…
“It is scientifically sensible to say that all behavior is in some sense caused. But a society that thinks scientific determinism renders personal responsibility a chimera must consider it absurd not only to condemn depravity but also to praise nobility. Such moral derangement can flow from exaggerated notions of what science teaches, or can teach, about the biological and environmental roots of behavior.
“Or — revisers of the DSM, please note — confusion can flow from the notion that normality is always obvious and normative, meaning preferable. And the notion that deviations from it should be considered “disorders” to be “cured” rather than stigmatized as offenses against valid moral norms.”
