Bob McDonnell: GOP Response

Fox News: “Fact Check” on State of Union Message

President Obama, who once considered government spending freezes a hatchet job, told Americans on Wednesday it’s now part of his solution to the exploding deficit. He didn’t explain what had changed.

His State of the Union speech skipped over a variety of complex realities in laying out a “common-sense” call to action.

A look at some of his claims and how they compare with the facts…

Mark Steyn on SOTU

“We’ve met here in good times and bad, war and peace, prosperity and depression, Shrove Tuesday and Super Bowl Sunday, riding high in April, shot down in May. We’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing. Each time we find ourselves flat on our face, we pick ourselves up and get back in the race. That’s life, pause for applause . . .

There’s no sense that, even as platitudinous filler, it arises organically from who this man is.”

Jonah Goldberg: “Have Some More of Me…”

Maternal genomic imprints in mice lead the mothers to make nests and feed and retrieve wandering pups. They also lead to higher volumes of cerebral cortex. The human equivalents – in males or in females – would be a high verbal aptitude and lots of lectures to us kids while he/she makes us a nest called “government.” For either gender, we call them a “liberal.” JB

“This novel theory allows Obama to stick to his view that there’s nothing wrong with his health-care plan, and anyone who feels differently hasn’t heard or understood the president’s explanations.

“So, he not only implored Democrats not to “run for the hills” on the health-reform bill, but insisted that as “temperatures cool,” hot-tempered opponents will, of course, realize they were wrong about the bill.

“Obama began his presidency insisting that government is the answer to our problems. A year later, he still believes that the era of big government is upon us.

Alito’s Joe Wilson

Wilson shouted, Alito was caught by a lens. Wilson collected lots of campaign money, what to do about Alito? Are we to reward a judge for telling the truth?

“Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito didn’t like President Obama’s public criticism of the high court’s ruling removing corporate campaign spending limits – and he didn’t try to hide it.

“Alito made a dismissive face, shook his head and appeared to mouth the words “not true” or possibly “simply not true” when Obama assailed the decision Wednesday night in his State of the Union address.

“I’ll just do an Executive Order”

It’s time to end Executive Orders and Czars. Impeach and remove…

“Responding to an executive order by President Obama, a new push is under way for states to adopt laws limiting the use of their National Guard units unless there is an invasion, insurrection or other limited circumstance.

As WND reported, Obama’s order establishes a new “Council of Governors” designated to advise on the “synchronization and integration of state and federal military activities in the United States.”

The recent order, posted on the White House website, was accompanied by the explanation that the group is to work “to protect our nation against all types of hazards.” It comes just weeks after the president issued a similarly obscure order vastly expanding INTERPOL’s privileges in the U.S.

Also: listen to “Aaron Klein, WABC Radio, 770 AM, 7-9 PM, Sunday night. (Also by streaming from www.wabcRadio.com.) Klein, WND’s Jerusalem bureau chief, said Sunday’s show will focus on his investigations into Obama administration czars as well as exclusive news and updates about Israel and the war on terrorism.

“Klein’s show on WABC 770 AM will air from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time. He will broadcast from Jerusalem.

“The call in number to speak with Klein during the show is 1-800-848-WABC or 800-848-9222.”

Klein authored The Late, Great State of Israel and Schmoozing with Terrorists.

Bob Guzzardi: Earmarks by Congressmen

“As Senator Tom Coburn pointed out: Earmarks are the Gateway Drug to bad legislation. It is how votes are bought. Elected officials fund special projects for special people who support them, or, at the very least, don’t criticize them or work against them. Earmarks are about political power and not about any rational use of taxpayer money.

“The two links below have the Citizens Against Government Waste “Earmark Reform” pledges, one for House and one for Senate. These pledges are the line in the sand showing whether the candidate is committed to reform.

“House Earmark Reform” Pledge US House of Representatives

“Senate Earmark Reform ” Pledge US Senate

“ Here is the Club for Growth  list of the 40 US House members and 8 US Senators, Democrat and Republican, who have made NO EARMARK REQUESTS in 2009. These Representatives and Senators did not, in all cases, sign the Citizens Against Government Waste pledge. In many cases, they simply announced that they would not make any Earmark requests.”

More Guzzardi: Carol Aichele

“Chester County Republican Committee Establishment Insiders did not hear the message from Massachusetts… Tea Party does not want ‘business as usual”; we don’t want the parties picking the candidates; we want to have input into the candidates for our government.

Endorsement for  Lt. Governor of Carole Aichele was done without interviewing or, apparently, considering any other candidate. “Rigged” is the word I would use to describe excluding input from committee people, activists, and concerned voters. The Chester County Republican Committee, basically, picked the candidates and told voters for whom they could vote.

Robert Samuelson: Bernanke Renewal

Superstition is that Bernanke helped plug our draining economy. Science and economics suggest that our economy would have stabilized itself and recovered without McCain having tremors during an election. Now we have an instance of synchronous behavior in which two players – Bernanke and Wall Street – watch each other. This is fine until one gets nervous at which moment the other will get nervous.

“Now that the Senate has confirmed him for a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke has, or ought to have, a very simple agenda: improve confidence. This isn’t his job alone, of course. President Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner are hardly bit players. But what Bernanke does and says — how he projects himself and the Fed — matters a great deal, and he faces an exacting challenge.”

Krauthammer: Mirandize the Guy!!!

The real scandal surrounding the failed Christmas Day airline bombing was not the fact that a terrorist got on a plane — that can happen to any administration, as it surely did to the Bush administration — but what happened afterward …We have since learned that the decision to Mirandize Abdulmutallab had been made without the knowledge of or consultation with (1) the secretary of defense, (2) the secretary of homeland security, (3) the director of the FBI, (4) the director of the National Counterterrorism Center or (5) the director of national intelligence (DNI).

“The Justice Department acted not just unilaterally but unaccountably.”

Hamas’ 54 Democrat Congressmen

Detroit has our nation’s largest concentration of Muslims?

From Southeast Michigan Patriots
 By Daniel Greenfield , January 27, 2010
[A must-read article about Hamas, CAIR, Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam, Free Gaza, the Muslim Brotherhood and how they have infiltrated Congress]
“Of the top 11 CAIR moneygetters in congress, Nick Rahall, James Moran, Darrel Issa, John Conyers, Dennis Kucinich, Jesse Jackson, Jr, John Dingell, Barbara Lee, Carolyn Kilpatrick, Shelia Jackson Lee and Jim McDerrmott—7 out of 11 signed on to Ellison’s letter. That makes the Gaza letter a CAIR project. Five on that list [including Conyers, Dingell, and Kilpatrick] voted against condemning attacks on Israel.

Electromagnetic Pulse Attacks

“Historian William R. Forstchen researched what America would be like in the aftermath of an EMP attack for his novel One Second After. I don’t think I’m spoiling the experience for prospective readers by telling you that Forstchen is convinced the result would be millions of deaths from starvation and disease, a catastrophe from which America would never fully recover.
“The EMP commission also reported that Iran — which is feverishly working to acquire nuclear weapons — has conducted tests in which it launched missiles and exploded warheads at high altitudes. The CIA has translated Iranian military journals in which EMP attacks against the U.S. are explicitly discussed.”
