Health Care: The Bennett Button
Legislation has moved to a compromise committee. Time to punch in!
PA Single-Payer Health Care
CATs carried an earlier list of House sponsors for single-payer health care. I was assured it would come to nothing. On the other hand, “free” stuff, as if a swine flu variant, infects lots of minds. Lou Flanagan, thanks for this.
“In Pennsylvania, a group promoting the single-payer system, Health Care for All Pennsylvania, is supporting two bills — House Bill 1660, the Family and Business Health Security Act, and Senate Bill 400 — that would create a statewide, comprehensive health care system.”
Thomas Sowell: Unhealthy Arrogance
“…this is not about improving the health of the American people. It is about passing something– anything– to keep the Obama administration from ending up with egg on its face by being unable to pass a bill, after so much hype and hoopla. Politically, looking impotent is a formula for disaster at election time. Far better to pass even bad legislation that will not actually go into effect until after the 2012 presidential election, so that the public will not know whether it makes medical care better or worse until it is too late for the voters to hold the administration accountable.”
Andy McCarthy: Interpol New Powers by Exec Order 12425
“On Wednesday, however, for no apparent reason, President Obama issued an executive order removing the Reagan limitations. That is, Interpol’s property and assets are no longer subject to search and confiscation, and its archives are now considered inviolable. This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.
“Interpol works closely with international tribunals (such as the International Criminal Court — which the United States has refused to join because of its sovereignty surrendering provisions, though top Obama officials want us in it).”

ACORN: Lots of It
Sara Geismann, thanks!
“Hidden camera videos emerged in September showing ACORN (Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now) employees advising a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute how to establish a brothel and finance it with government grants.
But it also is accused of political corruption, election fraud, racketeering, money laundering, and countless other violations of the law, according to the American Spectator article written by Matthew Vadum, senior editor at Capital Research Center, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.”
Heritage: Health Care Compromises
The Six Key Issues the House Must Cave On Before Obamacare Becomes Law
-Soak the Rich or Tax Everybody, -Employer Mandate Penalties, -Individual Mandate Penalties, -Weak or Strong Public Plan, -Medicaid Expansion, -Taxpayer Funded Abortion.
These are all major policy differences that go to the core of the Obama health care plan. For each option, choosing one version over the other will have huge consequences for the American people. But since Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Ben Nelson (D-NE) have threatened to veto the bill if any significant changes are made by the House in conference, it is most likely the Senate will prevail on every issue. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) might even just save herself and the leftist majority in the House the embarrassment and pass the Senate bill as is. After all, the Obama administration wants a bill, any bill, and doesn’t really care what is actually in it.
Nullification of Federal Health Care
Thanks, Mark Driver. Unfortunately, Representative Josephs (D, Phil) still has PA’s HR95 locked in her desk. And at some sites, “secession” is an active word…
“The real way to resist DC is not by begging politicians and judges in Washington to allow us to exercise our rights…it’s to exercise our rights whether they want to give us “permission” to or not.
Nullification – state-level resistance to unconstitutional federal laws – is the way forward.
“When a state ‘nullifies’ a federal law, it is proclaiming that the law in question is void and inoperative, or ‘non-effective,’ within the boundaries of that state; or, in other words, not a law as far as that state is concerned.
“It’s peaceful, effective, and has a long history in the American tradition.
“Led by Arizona, voters in a number of states may get a chance to approve State Constitutional Amendments in 2010 that would effectively ban national health care in their states. Our sources here at the Tenth Amendment Center indicate to us that we should expect to see 20-25 states consider such legislation in 2010.
“20 States resisting DC can do what calling, marching, yelling, faxing, and emailing has almost never done. Stop the feds dead in their tracks.”
“Murderous Ideology”: Brits Tire of Jihadists?
“Friday’s attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner by a British-educated Islamist was foiled by the bravery of its passengers and crew. We cannot assume that we will be lucky next time. And the indications are that there will be a next time. According to police sources, 25 British-born Muslims are currently in Yemen being trained in the art of bombing planes. But most of these terrorists did not acquire their crazed beliefs in the Islamic world: they were indoctrinated in Britain.”
A freckled lady asked me about the future of our country. Here’s “an” answer but may not be “the” answer.
I once kept a pet rat in a glass tank on my kitchen table. No matter what clean shavings and empty boxes I supplied, she quickly tunneled and gnawed her own doors and paths, turning the home that I made into one comfortable for her.
In a similar manner, humanity has always “humanized” this planet just as the rat arranged her world and a spider does the same whenever he spins a web. The rat, the spider, and a few editors understand individualism while our national leaders do not. Thus, winter storms sweep our country, our Leader rests in Hawaii, and his sponsors campaign for restrictions on coal and oil. Truck drivers, their gas cards cancelled by Arrow, get home for the holidays, rescued not by organizations but by other drivers who provide money, lodging, food, fuel, and legal advice. (All that stuff you collected and arranged for Christmas? A trucker delivered it.)
Meanwhile, I find that human nature not only builds well, it also makes sewage.
That is, Chester County organizations are as much our problem as those statewide or in D.C. No matter the scale of ownership, you find that “buy” outweighs “should” and those best able to buy consume their futures and their credit not only at shopping malls but also in political favors and debts. Even the best self-proclaimed conservative will lie to the election board. Our neighbors in Philadelphia – where the police burned down a neighborhood, the contractor put up a very large home in my rural neighborhood, and the mayor was reelected – recall Benjamins Rush and Franklin and expect us to subsidize transportation, housing, power, and recreation but neglect voter fraud, poll intimidation, and ACORN.
Life, however, depends on small experiments. I, one more alley rat, beg or steal electronic scraps and rearrange them to make a more interesting alley…at least one suited both to me and to the rats and spiders that join my community. Durability, truth, and honor still grow freely but from bottom up. And as Dr. Hayek noticed, dreamers make theories that in turn make homes for thugs.
A Fine Book

Dead Cats depends on contributions and theft. I’ve received donations from the following rebellious individualists, none of them a thug or a mobster. Thank you all for this year. Let’s make a better one next time!
Thanks especially to contributors Mark, Diane, Harrison, Betty, Susan, Sara, Sasha, Nils, Bill, Ted, Lou, Karin, Karen, Bruce, Paula, Linda, Diana, Carl, Bob, Kim, Janet, Gisela, Barbara, Jeff, Richard, Pam, Ann Marie, Donna, Donna Mae, Maureen, Jonathan, Tania, Jane, and Wendy.
And a special thanks to BO, Arlen, Nancy, and HarryCarry, as well as to Chris, Barney, and Rahm, and to Bob, Arlen, and Babbett who still give us unemployed thugs something to do with our free time. After all, values will always outweigh dollars. Christ knew it. So did Toynbee. So do I. So will whomever be the historians who tell about us….
And a Favor
A politician sleeps in the back of the chamber. She slumps to one side, her skirt often hiked above her knees. Legislative rules forbid cameras, even when used to record a public official on duty in a public place. I know what Federalist 57 says…somebody take the picture!!!

David Loye of the Darwin Project: “Believers”
“In the wake of a year of Darwin birthday anniversary celebrations, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is a new edition of Darwin’s Lost Theory designed to highlight the work of Darwin Project Council members and all of you other interested parties. We’ll get to this after a look at the bad news that underlines the good—or at least hopeful—news involving all of you.
“The bad news is that after a year of Darwin Anniversary celebrations the latest Harris Poll (December 19, 2009) shows that still less than half (45%) of Americans believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution. Earlier this year a British poll showed that even after over 100 years of Neo and Super Neo Darwin theory, even in England only 25% definitely believe in Darwin’s theory. Half of those surveyed were still either strongly opposed or too confused to believe or not believe. Not so coincidentally, I suggest, is the fact that in September Public Policy polling found 21% of Americans believe Obama is the Antichrist, going up to 34% among Republicans.”
Happy New Year!

Pickering Creek Inn, 37 East Bridge St, Phoenixville, 610-933-9962.
Elections are coming and we need to be educated. For example, Republican area chairs can hold vacancies in reserve until needing friends at nomination time. And once nominations are past, a black hole fills their desk chair. (Our own Harrison Chaess has put his finger into this Pandora’s box!)
Meanwhile, the January meeting features guest speaker Tom Lingenfelter, a nationally known historian, and one of America’s major dealers in documents and artifacts. Tom will discuss the importance of Committee People and their role in the election process. To find out more about Tom visit his website at: www.TomLingenfelter.com He will be followed by Gunnery Sgt Jonathan Jenkins, a candidate for the PA legislature, and possibly by Sam Rohrer, a legislator and a possible candidate for Governor.
