Election Day: Six months from yesterday!
1789: The first inaugural honored George and Martha Washington and was held in NYC.
1915: A German U-boat sank the British liner Lusitania off of the Irish coast and killed 1200, including 128 Americans.
1945: Germany surrendered its forces to the Allies in Riems, France, ending WW II in Europe. (Bennett & Cribb, 2008, 2010)
Victor Davis Hanson, PJM: Obama’s Liberal Experiment Failed
“The trivial Elizabeth Warren “high cheekbones” fraud nonetheless offered a draw-back-the-curtain look into the gears and levers of our national race industry. The real story is not that the multimillionaire liberal (and one-percenter) Warren fabricated a Cherokee identity for over a decade (to the delight of her quota-thirsty universities), but rather the notion that if a pink blond at Harvard can get away with faking a career-enhancing minority identity, then anyone, anywhere, can—or rather often has
“… We have had 38 months of 8% plus unemployment. We are setting records in the numbers of Americans not working and the percentage of the adult population not employed. GDP growth was a pathetic 1.7%. The borrowing hit $5 trillion under Obama, who between golf outings and campaign hit-ups of wealthy people, adds $1 trillion plus each year in more debt. To question how to pay it back is to pollute the air or abandon the children.
“…A ‘reset’ Russia now threatens unilaterally to preempt and take out proposed U.S. anti-missile sites in Eastern Europe (Poland and the Czech Republic should enjoy that, even though it is mere bluster). The Chen case reminds of China’s growing contempt for the indebted U.S. (They did not get the message that a community organizer and Chicago part-time lecturer is a postnational, postracial healer.) The Arab Spring is turning into an Islamist Winter. What the media forgot to tell us about the spike-the-ball presidential trip to Afghanistan is the president’s promise to end Predator drone strikes against al-Qaeda targets in Pakistan—the liberal favorite tool of foreign policy (no prisoners in Guantanamo, no tribunals, no trials, no media videos of the explosions, no reports of the kids and granny blown up along with the suspect, little dollar costs, no U.S. lives endangered, no downside really other than we sometimes are not quite sure whom we blew up below).”
BBC: France – Back Left after 17 Years
“”I am the president of the youth of France,” he told the assembled crowd of tens of thousands of supporters, emphasising his “pride at being president of all the republic’s citizens”. “You are a movement that is rising up throughout Europe,” he said.
Mr Hollande has called for a renegotiation of a hard-won European treaty on budget discipline championed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mr Sarkozy.
Mr Hollande’s campaign director, Pierre Moscovici, told AFP news agency that Mrs Merkel had congratulated the president-elect by phone, and that the two had agreed to work together on “a strong Franco-German relationship in the interest of Europe”.
UK Independent: “My real enemy is the world of finance”
“The 57-year-old Socialist has openly admitted that he “does not like the rich” and declared that “my real enemy is the world of finance”. This means taxing the wealthy by up to 75 per cent, curtailing the activities of Paris as a centre for financial dealing, and ploughing millions into creating more civil service jobs.
“Add an explicit threat to renegotiate the euro pact to replace austerity with “growth-creating” spending, and you have one of the most vehemently left-wing programmes in recent history.
“German Chancellor Angela Merkel – the woman at the centre of the Franco-German economic powerhouse which has dominated Europe – was at one stage even threatening to campaign for her conservative ally, Nicolas Sarkozy, against Mr Hollande.
“Caution is justified, though one thing Mr Hollande will not repeat is the disastrous tax-and-spend policies introduced by France’s last Socialist President, François Mitterrand, in 1981. He was soon forced into a humiliating U-turn, and into sharing power with the right as the Communists quit his cabinet in protest.
“In contrast, Mr Hollande will focus on solving the euro crisis and reversing a Gallic economic decline widely blamed on a failed capitalist system, and particularly a rotten banking sector…”
Mark Steyn, NRO: Composite Americans
“Have you dated a composite woman? They’re America’s hottest new demographic. As with all the really cool stuff, Barack Obama was doing it years before the rest of us. In Dreams from My Father, the world’s all-time most unread bestseller, he spills the inside dope on his composite white girlfriend: ‘When we got back to the car she started crying. She couldn’t be black, she said. She would if she could, but she couldn’t. She could only be herself, and wasn’t that enough … ‘
“But being yourself is never going to be enough in the new composite America. Last week, in an election campaign ad, Barack revealed his latest composite girlfriend — ‘Julia.’ She’s worse than the old New York girlfriend. She can’t even be herself. In fact, she can’t be anything without massive assistance from Barack every step of the way, from his ‘Head Start’ program at the age of three through to his Social Security benefits at the age of 67. Everything good in her life she owes to him. When she writes her memoir, it will be thanks to a subvention from the Federal Publishing Assistance Program for Chronically Dependent Women but you’ll love it: Sweet Dreams from My Sugar Daddy. She’s what the lawyers would call ‘non composite mentis.’ She’s not competent to do a single thing for herself — and, from Barack’s point of view, that’s exactly what he’s looking for in a woman, if only for a one-night stand on a Tuesday in early November.
“Then there’s ‘Elizabeth,’ a 62-year-old Democratic Senate candidate from Massachusetts…”
Robert VerBruggen, NRO: DoJ Funds Bernie Dohrn
“Bernardine Dohrn has a history with the Justice Department. More specifically, in the early 1970s, she was one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives because of her actions with the Weather Underground, a violent radical organization.
“Times have changed. In 2010 and 2011, the Justice Department saw fit to give $400,000 in grants to an organization that lists Dohrn as a member of its board of directors: a $150,000 grant in September of 2010 and a $250,000 grant a year later.
“The organization that received the grants is the W. Haywood Burns Institute, and the project that brought in the money is the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative. JDAI aims to keep juvenile criminals out of “secure confinement” and to reduce racial disparities in the juvenile justice system…”
Tony Lee, Big Journalism: Blame Sarah Palin
“Winston Churchill said ‘history is written by the victors.’ But too often in politics, where professional tacticians want to preserve their permanent paychecks by deflecting their mistakes onto everyone but themselves, losers often desperately attempt to re-write history.
“And that is exactly what GOP establishment operatives, aided and abetted by members of the mainstream media who want to preserve access to them, are now doing to the history of the 2008 presidential campaign, as they attempt to blame Palin–and, by association, non-establishment grassroots conservatives–for their own professional malpractice during that campaign…”
27,700 Hits on Google: ‘Massive Civil War’???
InfoWars is one of many sites carrying word that appears to have slid past the mainstreamers. I don’t want to believe this story but a part of my mind insists on its possibly being true … after all, Obama wants to hold on to his office … meanwhile, I’ m reading Hannah Arendt’s little book, On Revolution. She emphasized the need for not only poverty but also misery… We have some of the first but not much of the second…
“In a riveting interview on TruNews Radio, Wednesday, private investigator Doug Hagmann said high-level, reliable sources told him the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is preparing for “massive civil war” in America.
“We have problems . . . The federal government is preparing for civil uprising,” he added, “so every time you hear about troop movements, every time you hear about movements of military equipment, the militarization of the police, the buying of the ammunition, all of this is . . . they (DHS) are preparing for a massive uprising.”
“Hagmann goes on to say that his sources tell him the concerns of the DHS stem from a collapse of the U.S. dollar and the hyperinflation a collapse in the value of the world’s primary reserve currency implies to a nation of 311 million Americans, who, for the significant portion of the population, is armed…”
Alexander Marlow, Breitbart: Obama Launched, No One Watched
“Barack Obama launched his campaign in unspectacular fashion today at Ohio State University, the largest college in the crucial swing state. A photo posted to twitter by Mitt Romney’s campaign spokesman Ryan Williams reveals sparse attendance. The above image, according to Williams, was taken during the President’s first official campaign speech.
“During the speech, Obama ripped into the presumptive GOP nominee and discussed nation building at home, but the most newsworthy item of the day was not the talking points Obama delivered: it was the crowd… or lack thereof. According to ABC News, the Obama campaign had expected an “overflow” of people. Instead, the arena looked half-empty. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Obama organizers even had people move from the seats to the floor of the gym in order to project a larger crowd on television…”
Keith Koffler, WhiteHouseDossier: Obama Abolished Press Conferences
“It’s May, and the president has stood for only a single such news conference this year, a March 6 event in the briefing room. He’s had only three since last June, counting a November press conference in Hawaii that was supposed to be devoted to the just-held Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit but which veered off into other issues.
“Nor does Obama generally allow questioning during brief appearances at the White House, such as when he makes statements with foreign leaders. Previous presidents, including George W. Bush, routinely took a couple of questions on the topic of the day at such gatherings.
“Bush also held fewer press conferences than he should have. But this doesn’t excuse Obama, who would seem especially obligated to appear before the press given his pledges to maintain an “openness” administration.
“Instead, the White House does its best to control access to Obama, presenting him to local and sometimes national reporters in “one-on-one” settings…”
Jeff Poor, Daily Caller: Dems Stuck with Biden for VP
“On Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC, Vice President Joe Biden put to rest any speculation that he wouldn’t be on the ticket for the November election, but not without creating a little bit of controversy.
“Biden first gave his thoughts on the being on the ticket instead of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, an alternative candidate some have suggested.
“‘There’s no question about it,’ Biden said. ‘There’s no way out. I mean, they’ve already printed Obama-Biden. You are looking at a vice-presidential candidate for the United States of America.’
“Biden said the rumors about his departure from the ticket didn’t annoy him personally. Instead, he said, all the talk annoyed him because it suggested the Obama candidacy was weak…”
Yahoo/AFP: Joe to pair with Hillary in 2016?
“Vice President Joe Biden, who is preparing to embark on the 2012 re-election campaign trail, suggested Sunday he might be interested in running in 2016 — paired on a ticket with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I think we may run as a team,” Biden teased in an interview on NBC television to discuss his political future as President Barack Obama’s right hand man in the White House, during the campaign leading to November’s presidential election, and beyond.
“I’m only joking obviously. I don’t know. I don’t know whether I’m going to run and Hillary doesn’t know whether she’s going to run,” the Democrat stressed.
“Clinton, who ran a tight campaign against Obama in 2008 in a failed bid to win the Democratic Party nomination, has so far strenuously ruled out making any further bid for the White House…”
Quinn & Riggs, Reason: Libertarian Anarchy
“Las Vegas – After a relatively uneventful president and vice-presidential nominating process, all hell broke loose at the Libertarian National Convention when the Libertarian Party attempted to pick a new national committee chair. The race between current chair Mark Hinkle and vice chair Mark Rutherford fell into disarray when a group of delegates associated with Lee Wrights made a push for the option of None Of The Above.
“The selection of ‘None of the Above,’ or NOTA, would exclude Hinkle and Rutherford from future rounds of ballots, while opening the race to candidates who can be nominated from the floor. Wrights said he would accept the nomination…”
Aaron Klein KleinonLine: Cass Sunstein Supports Internet Infiltration
“Cass Sunstein, President Obama’s ‘regulatory czar,’ doesn’t ‘remember very well’ a lengthy academic paper from 2008 in which he argued the U.S. government should ban ‘conspiracy theorizing,’ including by sending agents to infiltrate websites, chat rooms and online social networks.
Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.
When an activist earlier this week repeatedly challenged Sunstein on the 30-page Harvard Law paper, ‘On Conspiracies,’ the White House official claimed, ‘I hope I didn’t say any of those things.’
“Sunstein repeatedly refused to retract the controversial paper…”

Paper (download), “Conspiracy Theories” by Sunstein & Vermeule
“…Conspiracy theorists are not likely to be persuaded by an attempt to dispel their theories; they may even characterize that very attempt as further proof of the conspiracy. Because those who hold conspiracy theories typically suffer from a crippled epistemology, in accordance with which it is rational to hold such theories, the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups. (emph added, jb) Various policy dilemmas, such as the question whether it is better for government to rebut conspiracy theories or to ignore them, are explored in this light….”

Carlo Munoz, The Hill: Panetta about Climate Change
Another indication that Obama buys votes from the greens?
“Climate change has had a direct effect on national security, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said this week.
“Panetta told an audience at the Environmental Defense Fund that climate change has raised the need for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, hitting national security in the process.
“The area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security,” Panetta said. “Rising sea levels, severe droughts, the melting of the polar caps, the more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.”
“Panetta spoke to the Environmental Defense Fund on Tuesday at an event honoring the Defense Department for advancing clean-energy initiatives.
In recent years, the Defense Department and the services have spearheaded a number of alternative-energy initiatives and seemingly embraced environmentally friendly practices on the battlefield.
“President Obama effectively put the Pentagon at the forefront of an ambitious alternative energy strategy during the State of the Union speech in January. The Navy and Air Force have already spent billions to integrate biofuels into their fleets of fighter jets and warships…”
UK Daily Mail: 20,000 Protest Putin Inauguration
“…Club-wielding officers wearing helmets seized demonstrators and hauled them to police vehicles, dragging some by the hair, others by the neck. Several protesters were injured, including one man with blood dripping from his head down the left side of his face.
“Three leaders of the opposition movement that gained new life over the winter were among those arrested: Sergei Udaltsov, Alexei Navalny and Boris Nemtsov
More than 400 people were arrested, and Russia’s chief investigative agency said it was considering filing criminal charges of inciting riots against some of them. Police reported that 12 riot police officers were injured.
“Previous installments of an unprecedented wave of protests that burst out after fraud-plagued parliamentary elections in December had been marked by fastidious order.
The crowds, sometimes as big as 100,000 or more, had carefully kept to agreed-upon meeting-places and routes, even making a point of thanking police who stood guard in vast numbers, but did not interfere.
“Sunday’s break in that pattern likely reflected a sense of anger and impotence among protesters upset that Putin was handily elected to a new term in the Kremlin despite their defiance.
“Putin, who imposed a political system that stifled dissent and who dismissed the protesters as callow, pampered youths and Western stooges, will be sworn in for a six-year term on Monday…”
