September 19, 1796: George Washington’s Farewell Address included his reminder to fellow citizens that national strength rests on the pillars of private morality, especially religion. (Bennett & Cribb, 2008)

Tara Ross, NRO: PA Hijacks Presidential Election?

“…the National Popular Vote campaign is striving to effectively eliminate the Electoral College by asking states to allocate their electors to the winner of the national popular vote, rather than the winner of state popular votes. Now, it looks like NPV’s long road to changing the Electoral College might encounter a sudden detour.

“Some Pennsylvania Republicans have proposed an alternative: a congressional-district system. One elector would be given to the winner of each district; the two remaining Pennsylvania electors would go to the winner of the state’s popular vote. Republicans would likely gain 11 or 12 electors in 2012. Needless to say, many Democrats are protesting the effort (see: here, here, and here).

“Ultimately, Pennsylvania must decide for itself what to do. But there are several pros and cons to consider…”

Jim Kuhnhenn, AP: BO to Propose $1.5T in New Taxes

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s proposal to reduce long-term deficits with $1.5 trillion in new taxes is less an opening bid in a negotiation than it is an opening salvo in a struggle to draw sharp contrasts with congressional Republicans.

Obama’s proposal is aimed predominantly at the wealthy and comes just days after House Speaker John Boehner ruled out tax increases to lower deficits. It also comes amid a clamor in his own Democratic Party for Obama to take a tougher stance against Republicans. And while the plan stands little chance of passing Congress, its populist pitch is one that the White House believes the public can support.

Eric Boehm, PA Independent: Drivers on 422 to Subsidize Trains

Government-sponsored passenger service has almost never been self-supporting. And the simpler it is to leave Philadelphia, the more people will do so,  leaving the classic “donut” of a central, core with crime, voter fraud, and  failed schools and a perimeter of choked traffic, newer schools, and a sense that all of us made a terrible mistake. A rail line may get some luster for a few politicians and union bosses but not for its riders or the towns that it visits.

“Editor’s Note: This is the first of a two-part look at the growing opposition to plans to toll Route 422.
“HARRISBURG — A proposed transportation project to improve Route 422 and move some drivers off the congested roadway with mass transit will require drivers to shoulder the entire $750-million price tag.
“The project would be financed by bonds that would be repaid with revenue from new tolls on Route 422, according to a preliminary plan by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission…”

Rail Line “Makes No Sense”

Mary Anastasia O’Grady, WSJ: Canadian Oil Sands, Job Gusher

“For all its soaring rhetoric, President Obama’s “jobs speech” last week didn’t demonstrate a lick of insight into why economies grow or how wealth is created. It was merely trademark Obamanomics: using government diktat to move money that’s over here, over there.

“Having spent an hour the day before with Ron Liepert, the energy minister from the Canadian province of Alberta, I found it especially disturbing to hear nothing in the speech about reversing the administration’s anti-fossil-fuels agenda. Canada has recovered all the jobs it lost in the 2009 recession, and Alberta’s oil sands are no small part of that. The province is on track to become the world’s second-largest oil producer, after Saudi Arabia, within 10 years. Meanwhile Mr. Obama clings to his subsidies for solar panels and his religious faith in green jobs…”

Robert Knight, Washington Times: Obama Shreds the Constitution

Thanks Lou,

“The Constitution of the United States, whose adoption we celebrate every Sept. 17, clearly lists the powers of each branch of the national government. Let’s take a look at what Barack Obama, like any president, is empowered to do and see if it squares with his actions. In Article II, Section 1, he is sworn to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Section 2 names the president as commander in chief of the armed forces, grants him the power to make treaties with the advice and consent of the Senate and to appoint ambassadors, federal judges, Cabinet officials and other federal officers. Section 3 says the president “shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

“In his two years and nine months in office, President Obama has compiled a spectacular record of noncompliance with the Constitution. Here are just some of the ways his administration has failed to execute the laws while using raw, unauthorized power…”

Brenda Elliott, KleinOnLine: Soros – “Occupy Wall Street!”

“The tipoff for George Soros’ involvement with the September 17 anti-banker OccupyWallStreet direct action comes by way of , an “Expat activist, lover, info-geek” who is “trying to play [her] role on the #globalrevolution.”1

“Khatib wrote yesterday — on behalf of the “citizens and non-citizens” of The General Assembly of New York City — in a Take the Square message, that “One of the first concrete steps we have decided to take is to participate in a global day of action against [the] financial capital on September 17, 2011.”

“Khatib continues: “We invite you to join us in this action by peacefully occupying the streets and squares surrounding the Wall Street area in New York City beginning on September 17.”

“What has been unknown to date is what do “they” want?

“As I wrote a few days ago, the plan is to encamp on Wall Street in New York City and internationally in major financial centers. The September 17 target is the banks.

“However, the agenda goes way beyond this…”

CBS: “Protesters in NYC – Money and Politics

“(CBS News) NEW YORK – A coalition of groups who say they’ve been inspired by “Arab Spring” protests against Middle Eastern despots has initiated a large, Tahrir Square-like protest in New York City, in the heart of the financial district.

“On Saturday, about 1,000 people converged on Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan, near the financial district, to protest the influence of corporate money in American politics. Some will pitch tents with the intention of sitting in for a couple of months.

“Organizers of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ demonstration have called for 20,000 people to ‘flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months.’

“The protesters seek to persuade President Barack Obama to establish a commission that would end “the influence money has over representatives in Washington.”

Breitbart: Hillary Sold Taiwan

“The United States has decided not to sell Taiwan new F-16 fighter jets and will instead provide upgrades to its existing planes, a US congressional source said.

“The US State Department was to brief key lawmakers Friday on the decision, which was sure to anger China critics in the US Congress and upset Taiwan, but “no official announcement will be made for weeks,” the official said.

“We are hearing from State that it will be an upgrade and no sale,” the source, who requested anonymity, told AFP.

“Taiwan applied in 2007 to buy 66 F-16 C/D fighters, which have better radars and more powerful weapon systems than the 146 F-16 A/Bs it currently has, in response to China’s growing military muscle…”

Mark Steyn, NRO: BO’s Jobs

“…Pass this bill now, or I’ll say “Pass this bill now!” another two dozen times! With this latest inspiration, Obama has taken the post-modern phase of democratic politics to a whole new level. “Pass this jobs bill”? Simply as a matter of humdrum reality, there is no bill, it won’t “create” any jobs, and it will be paid for with money we don’t have. But the smartest president in history has calculated that, if he says the same four monosyllables over and over, a nonexistent bill to create nonexistent jobs with nonexistent money will be yet another legislative triumph in the grand tradition of his first stimulus (the original Dumb and Dumber to the sequel’s Stimulus and Stimulusser).”

Andy McCarthy, NRO: Solyndra – BO’s “Martha Stewart”

“The solar-energy company was a con game.

The Solyndra debacle is not just Obama-style crony socialism as usual. It is a criminal fraud. That is the theory that would be guiding any competent prosecutor’s office in the investigation of a scheme that cost victims — in this case, American taxpayers — a fortune.

“Fraud against the United States is one of the most serious felony offenses in the federal penal law. It is even more serious than another apparent Solyndra violation that has captured congressional attention: the Obama administration’s flouting of a statute designed to protect taxpayers…”

Barry Rubin PJM: Selective Antisemitism

“…There is a vast scam going on that represents the current left’s success in doing what the Communist Party tried to do in the 1930s. That’s why many liberal — and especially Jewish — intellectuals have turned against what’s happening now. Even many of those Democrats and Jews in general who vote for radicals-pretending-to-be-liberals do so with deep doubts…”

Duane Lester, PJM: GOP & Black Voters

Thanks Lou,

“In 2008, 96 percent [1] of black voters pulled the lever for Barack Obama. His current approval rating in the black community shows a possible, albeit slim, vulnerability — one that Florida Congressman Allen West is ready to exploit.

“On a recent episode of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, West said [2] Democrats have had black voters sequestered on a modern day plantation, and they are upset because ‘they have been disregarded, disrespected and their concerns are not cared about.’

“West claims to be ‘the modern day Harriet Tubman to kind of lead people on the Underground Railroad away from that plantation….’ The problem is, as West notes, the Republican Party’s outreach “has not done very well in reaching out.” [3]

WWIII: America at the Crossroads

Thanks Ted,

“The Leftist has been waging a quiet war against United States Capitalism since the early 1930s. There has been a massive infiltration of communist, Marxists, socialists and fellow travelers over that time. They are philosophically and politically committed to destroying the United States capitalistic economy, which was once the envy of the world.

They have largely been hidden and out of sight until the election of Barack Hussein Obama as President. George Soros is a mighty money machine tied in with these Democrat in leadership roles. Some are just idealists but many are hard-core revolutionaries who want to completely crush our economy. The Democrat Party leadership has been infiltrated and taken over by 1960s anti-war radicals who rooted for North Vietnam and spit on our soldiers.

“The tragedy of Obama’s election is that the money and control of the country are in the hands of people who fundamentally hate America. We are in a desperate situation. Fortunately, a series of key elections have shown that the American people are fed up and are willing to turn out the Democrat party in landslide numbers. Obama’s popularity is off-scale low and these radicals are becoming desperate.

“Many have warned before that riots are coming.

“Some have failed to notice the flash mobs and black ‘Youths’ around the country already assaulting whites. The SEIU, ACORN and AFL/CIO are all started to exhort their members to violence. The New Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam are gearing for civil riots. From The Blaze:

Be prepared for wild riots and civil disorder as the Democrats attempt to maintain the political power through force.

PJM: ACORN/AHCOA Eligible for $15B of your Money

Thanks Ted… Old stuff, but warming on the stove….

“ACORN and other radical left-wing groups would be eligible for up to $15 billion in federal funding if President Obama’s new economic stimulus package becomes law.

Section 261 of the bill provides $15 billion for “Project Rebuild.” Grants would be given to “qualified nonprofit organizations, businesses or consortia of eligible entities for the redevelopment of abandoned and foreclosed-upon properties and for the stabilization of affected neighborhoods.” Radical groups like ACORN won’t get the whole $15 billion, though, because they will have to compete with state and local governments for the money…”

Bob Guzzardi: Does PA Need another Specter Republican?

Mr. Guzzardi had a birthday Friday, September 16th!

Steve Welch Unacceptable Unelectable: the Establishment’s Choice, a Top Down Candidate who hires uberinsider Rob Bickart affiliated with Republican National Committee and Rick Santorum and other assorted professional phonies. Rob Bickart was Rick Santorum’s fundraiser for the 2006 union financed failed campaign and that should tell you all you need to know about Rob Bickart and Steve Welch but, in case it doesn’t, read here and Huffington Post gives you the dirt here and more here and Liberal JournoList Ben Smith gives us some more dirt.

In 2010, Steve Welch hired Rick Santorum’s BrabenderCox, a very expensive Establishment consultant.

Steve Welch is an elitist, “rich guy” who thinks he is suited for government office. Professional consultants love clueless clients who wannabee candidates for high political office, deluding themselves into thinking they have the personal skills and technical mastery to run and hold public office. It is a complex and difficult role. And for all our apparent disdain we have for them, it is we who elect them and it is we who owe them for subjecting themselves to the grueling process. Steve Welch is not “The Guy” who feels it.

The client wins, consultant takes all the credit; consultant gets paid. The client loses, consultant blames client; consultant gets paid. A Win Win… for the consultant. Good for them; not for the client. And, most definitely, not good for us.

Global Warming…if you’re a skeptic, then you’re a “conspiracy theorist,” to be reported, and visited by federal agents … so said Cass Sunstein.

Israeli Riots …. Stanley Greenberg (SEIU activist) seeded the idea of “tent cities” in Bolivia, Cairo, and near Wall Street. Collaboration with Jeffrey Sachs, a proponent of global currencies and a player in the collapse of the Bolivian government. Soros money links all of these people. Greenberg, incidentally, is married to CT representative Rosa DeLauro.

Palestinian Statehood … BO will probably veto any action in the UN General Assembly, perhaps because he needs Jewish votes in 11/12. The Palestinian representative is to hand a letter to the UN Secretary General, demanding recognition for Palestine. Such is outside of UN tradition and our European allies are mute for this performance.

Riots will likely follow in Palestine, Egypt, and possibly Syria. John Bachelor, WABC correspondent, joined Aaron and noted Turkey’s Erdogan has a powerful army and may threaten northern Syria in order to increase pressures on Israel. Meanwhile, Egyptian politics is dominated by people who make anti-Israeli remarks but resist Erdovan’s ambitions to head the “Arab League.” Could the UN crisis trigger a Middle East war?

Also: Anna Fifield, Financial Times

“Exactly a year ago this week, President Barack Obama stood at the podium at the UN General Assembly and declared his support for a Palestinian state.

“Palestinians will never know the pride and dignity that comes with their own state,” Mr Obama told the general assembly, unless the two parties reached a peace agreement.

“So it will be some degree of awkwardness that Mr Obama returns to the UN this week and directs his representatives to vote against a plan that would lead to Palestinians achieving that exact destination, albeit by a different route…”

David Goldman, Pajamas: Erdogan’s Madness

“Now that Turkey has threatened Europe with a “freeze in relations” if Cyprus (as planned) assumes the presidency of the European Union in 2012, it must seem to Erdogan that everyone is driving in the wrong direction. Earlier this month Turkey declared “null and void” the United Nations’ Palmer Commission report, which supported Israel’s right to enforce a blockade against Gaza. That was a minor gaffe, because United Nations dicta have the authority of revelation to the liberal media, except, of course, when they support Israel. It’s one thing for Turkey to freeze relations with Israel — we take it for granted these days that everybody hates Israel — but the Europeans? Everybody likes the Europeans, who have replaced their defense ministries with an answering machine that says, “We surrender.” And over Cyprus? Even Russia, Turkey’s key trading partner and the host for millions of Turkish guest workers, is aghast at Erdogan’s tantrum. Russia has strong ties to Cyprus…”
