Judson Phillips: TEA Party Nation: Twitter Addresses

“We need to be wearing out the Twitter accounts of the Republican leadership. The addresses are @JohnBoehner, @EricCantor, @KevinoMccarthy, @GOPLeader, @GOPWhip, @housefloor and @senatefloor.

Don’t forget the Twitter hashtags, #twitterteaparty and #predeclined.

Twitter Lessons:

“You know you want to find out more about that elusive enigma that keeps on beckoning you. It is a very powerful way to communicate but could be totally intimidating if you are a newbee to this and other forms of social media. Before you click away from here, let’s get into some real plain talk about what Twitter REALLY is and how you can benefit from it…”

Victor Davis Hanson, Pajamas: Ten Trillion Dollars

“The Congressional Budget Office not long ago forecast that Barack Obama’s $1 trillion-plus annual deficits — scheduled over the next decade — would result in almost another $10 trillion in aggregate debt. Going back to the pre-Bush tax rates this time won’t balance the budget. Slashing discretionary spending will not. So large has the splurge become, and so hooked are the constituencies of federal money, that massive cuts to entitlements necessary to stave off financial implosion may well prompt Greek-like protests.

“That staggering sum was apparently conventional wisdom until the November 2010 election. But now there is fear that at some point in the future, Obama will not be known as the first African-American president. Nor will he be cited even as the hope-and-change phenomenon of 2008. Instead, posterity shall know him as the single greatest borrower in American presidential history, a novice who nearly wrecked the U.S. economy by borrowing over $4 billion a day without any feasible proposal how to pay back such a vast sum — taking a post-recession recovery and turning it into a stagflationary mess. In the third year of his tenure, Obama is still left only with “Bush did it” as an explanation of what went wrong…”

Reuters, Sunday, 7:24 PM: Boehner Weighs Balanced-Budget Amendment

All of this chaos is a chicken-little effect – the sky falls August 2nd … how true is that? Remember, the value of an alarm is in  its neutrality … how useful is an alarm if it makes money from your panic?

“U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner told fellow Republicans on Sunday that he is considering a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution as part of a bill that would raise the debt ceiling, a source who heard his message said.

“That could be a sign that the Republican-controlled House and the Democratic-controlled Senate remain far apart in tense negotiations to avoid an Aug. 2 default.

“A balanced-budget amendment is popular with conservatives and was a central element of a bill that failed in the Senate after passing the House last week.

“Boehner told Republicans that he was working on a bill that would “reflect the principles” of that effort but provided few details, according to sources familiar with the call…”

Byron York, Washington Examiner: Sunday Afternoon Plan

“House Republicans are finishing work on a new proposal to resolve the standoff over the debt ceiling. The proposal, set to be finished and crafted into the form of a bill by Sunday, will be in two parts. The first will combine a short-term increase in the debt ceiling with spending cuts. The second will lay the groundwork for a longer-term increase in the debt ceiling coupled with far-reaching deficit reduction.

“‘Senator Reid said on Friday that he is going to wait for us to move,’ says a well-informed GOP House aide. ‘So we’ll move.’ Another well-informed aide confirmed the basic outline of what’s happening.

“Staff of the House Rules Committee is involved in the work, which is an indication that the process is nearing completion. Before any bill can be considered on the House floor, the Rules Committee must first pass a rule setting out the process for its consideration. Once the proposal is finished, it would likely be posted on the Rules Committee website, probably no later than Monday, so the committee could meet to consider it on Tuesday and it could be on the House floor by Wednesday…”

Mark Steyn, NRO: “Planless Dems”

“The ruling party has no spending plan other than to plan to spend even more.

Earlier this month, Moody’s downgraded Irish government debt to junk. Which left the Irish somewhat peeved. The Department of Finance pointed out that it had met all the “quantitative fiscal targets” imposed by the European Union, and the National Treasury Management Agency said that Ireland was sufficiently flush ‘to cover all its financing requirements until the end of 2013.’

“Which is more than the government of the United States can say.

“That’s not the only difference between the auld sod and America. In Europe, austerity is in the air, and in the headlines: ‘Italy Fast-Tracks Austerity Vote.’ ‘Greek Minister Urges Austerity Consensus.’ ‘Portugal to Speed Austerity Measures.’ ‘Even Queen Faces Funding Squeeze in Austerity Britain.’ The word has become so instantly ubiquitous that leftie deadbeats are already opposed to it: ‘Austerity Protest Takes Place in Dublin.’ For the rentamob types, ‘austerity’ is to this decade what ‘Bush’ and ‘Iraq War’ were to the last. It can’t be long before grizzled old rockers are organizing some all-star Rock against Austerity gala.

“By contrast, nobody seems minded to ‘speed austerity measures’ over here. The word isn’t part of the conversation — even though we’re broke on a scale way beyond what Ireland or Portugal could ever dream of…

Eric Cantor, Daily Caller: Balanced Budget – Vote This Week

“House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said late Friday that the House will “likely” vote on a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution next week, The Hill reports.

“The bill to introduce the amendment would likely pass the GOP-led House, which just this week passed “Cut, Cap and Balance,” an attempt at raising the debt ceiling by attaching the vote to spending cuts. But a balanced budget amendment would likely meet the same fate as the “Cut, Cap and Balance” pledge did in the Senate: It’ll be dead on arrival. (Debt-limit negotiations: the state of play)

“Democrats have said that even if they did support a balanced budget amendment, it would be impossible to actually amend the Constitution before August 2nd, the date on which the Treasury Department says the U.S. will default on its debt. An amendment would have to be ratified by three-fourths of the states, which would be difficult to coordinate in the next 10 days…”

George Will, PghTrib: Impediment to Reform

Thanks Joanne,

“The debt-ceiling vote has demonstrated that Obama is, strictly speaking, unbelievable. Five months ago he submitted a budget that would have accelerated indebtedness and that the Democrat-controlled Senate rejected in May, 97-0. Just three months ago he was demanding a “clean” increase in the debt ceiling, containing nothing to slow the spending carousel. Now he calls for “the largest possible” debt-reduction deal. Today, he says “if you look at the numbers, then Medicare … will run out of money and we will not be able to sustain that program no matter how much taxes go up.” Last year he advertised ObamaCare as a sufficient reform of health care.

“Obama vaguely promises to “look at” savings from entitlements because “we need to find trillions in savings over the next decade.” But when McConnell learned that negotiations chaired by Vice President Joe Biden had identified a risible $2 billion in 2012 discretionary spending cuts, McConnell concluded that Obama’s frugality pantomime required a response that will define the 2012 election choice.

“Richard Miniter, a Forbes columnist, is right: ‘Obama is not the new FDR, but the new Gorbachev…’”

Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe: Bachmann’s Headaches

“…In my case, age, not medicine, seems to have been the best therapy; when my odometer passed 40, the migraine attacks started growing less severe. But even before then, migraine wasn’t a paralyzing disability. The headaches hurt like hell, but they didn’t keep me from getting an education or holding a job. I don’t recommend giving a speech or going on TV while having a migraine, but I’ve managed to do both. I imagine Bachmann has, too. Her migraines plainly haven’t kept her from an impressive rise in national politics, or from setting the GOP primary field on fire. If she were “incapacitated’’ on a weekly basis, it’s unlikely she’d have come so far, so fast.

“So is it news that a would-be president once complained of migraine attacks that were “paroxysms of excruciating pain’’ – headaches that “came on every day at sunrise and never left me till sunset’’? No – not unless it’s news that Thomas Jefferson, who wrote those words, suffered migraines. Ulysses Grant did, too.

“I don’t know if Michele Bachmann can become the next president. But I do know this: She wouldn’t be the first one to live with migraine headaches.”

Pew Research: Polls – Blacks & Hispanics Stay with BO

“…Notably, the GOP gains have occurred only among white voters; a two-point Republican edge among whites in 2008 (46% to 44%) has widened to a 13-point lead today (52% to 39%). In sharp contrast, the partisan attachments of black and Hispanic voters have remained consistently Democratic.

While Republican gains in leaned party identification span nearly all subgroups of whites, they are particularly pronounced among the young and poor…”

Lincoln Radio Journal

(July 23, 2011 – July 29, 2011) This week on Lincoln Radio Journal: David Taylor, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association talks with Leonard Gilroy of the Reason Foundation about privatizing the state liquor stores; And, Lowman Henry has an American Radio Journal commentary on why voters are responsible for the debt ceiling stand-off in Washington, D.C.

Turning our pop shops over to private hands should produce license fees of about $2 billion.

Lowman Henry neatly summarized Washington’s mess…D’s raise taxes and buy programs, R’s cut taxes and spending.  Meanwhile, raising taxes will put another brick the chest of our drowning economy.  (And cutting taxes won’t do much because 1) of hikes already in our future and 2)because none of us trust what Obama might do with more money in his pocket.) 2012 will be the decider…

Gary Greenberg, Mother Jones: Gay Marriage – Not born that way”

“…But as crucial as this consensus has been to the struggle for gay rights, it may not be as sound as some might wish. While scientists have found intriguing biological differences between gay and straight people, the evidence so far stops well short of proving that we are born with a sexual orientation that we will have for life. Even more important, some research shows that sexual orientation is more fluid than we have come to think, that people, especially women, can and do move across customary sexual orientation boundaries, that there are ex-straights as well as ex-gays. Much of this research has stayed below the radar of the culture warriors, but reparative therapists are hoping to use it to enter the scientific mainstream and advocate for what they call the right of self-determination in matters of sexual orientation. If they are successful, gay activists may soon find themselves scrambling to make sense of a new scientific and political landscape.

Two Three Views of Terrorism

Reuters: Norway massacre suspect driven by “crusade”

“OSLO (Reuters) – The man suspected of Norway’s gun and bomb massacre had belonged to an anti-immigration party and opposed multi-culturalism, Islam and the “cultural Marxists” of the establishment, web postings, acquaintances and officials said Saturday.

“Anders Behring Breivik was accused of gunning down 85 people at a youth camp and killing another seven in a bomb attack on Friday.

“‘Before we can start our crusade we must do our duty by decimating cultural marxism,’ said a caption under a video called ‘Knights Templar 2083’ on the YouTube website.

“At the end of the approximately 12 minute clip, several images appear of Breivik, including one of him in a Navy Seal type scuba diving outfit pointing an automatic weapon.

“Two pictures also appeared earlier on a Facebook page created on July 17. The video was uploaded to YouTube on July 22, the day of the attacks.

“A Norwegian discussion website provided a link to an 1,500 page electronic book by an individual called Andrew Berwick, who also uploaded the video. In the book, Berwick is revealed as Anders Behring Breivik…”

NYT: “At Least 80 Dead in Norway Shooting”

One New York Times headline described the gunman as “Christian.”

Today’s news is that the gunman was protesting against Islam by killing Christians!

Paranoid schizophrenia: a rational person who becomes rigid, angry, and assaultive when a few core beliefs are contradicted. Coulter might call them “liberals”…

“Even as the police locked down a large area of the city after the blasts, the suspect, dressed as a police officer, entered the youth camp on the island of Utoya, about 19 miles northwest of Oslo, a Norwegian security official said, and opened fire. ‘He said it was a routine check in connection with the terror attack in Oslo,’ one witness told VG Nett, the Web site of a national newspaper.

Of the at least 80 people killed on the island, some were as young as 16, the police said on national television early Saturday. ..

“…After the shooting the police seized a 32-year-old Norwegian man on the island, according to the police and Justice Minister Knut Storberget. He was later identified as Anders Behring Breivik and characterized by officials as a right-wing extremist, citing previous writings including on his Facebook page.

The acting police chief, Sveinung Sponheim, said the suspect’s Internet postings ‘suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views, but if that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen…’”

Mike Savage, WND: Norways’ Quisling Moment

Savage’s angry,  misleading message broadcast from Friday afternoon and was still on WNTP this morning at 3 AM…. he declared the Oslo events to be the acts of Jihadists. He also described Norway as a magnet for Pakistani immigrants who coast on liberal social programs financed by oil. In contrast, birthrates for Norwegian are below replacement values…The immediate motive for the Muslims would have been Norway’s deportation of one of their leaders…

“…Vidkun Quisling, Savage reminded his listening audience, became president in a Nazi-backed coup and collaborated with Hitler in the dictator’s “Final Solution” plan to exterminate Jews.

“After the war, Quisling was executed for treason.

“‘The new Quislings,’ Savage said, are of a different sort.

“‘They open Norway’s doors to massive immigration from the Middle East,’ he said. ‘They spew hatred against the state of Israel. And today’s tragic massacres are the inevitable result.’

Savage said ‘Norway’s 9/11’ could have been stopped, ‘but it grew far too long, nourished by the bile of Eurosocialism.’

“‘I hoped that incidents like this,’ he said, ‘will lead Europeans to come to the defense of their own civilizations and clamp down on the hate and intolerance that takes perverse advantage of European tolerance and openness…’”

Daily Caller: Hillary’s State Dept. w/o Inspector General and She’s on World Tour

“Administration spokesman Eric Schultz told The Daily Caller on Thursday that Obama is looking for an inspector general to investigate internal malfeasance at the State Department.

“The Administration is committed to strong Inspectors General, and we are working diligently to identify highly qualified candidates to fill these important posts to ensure that taxpayers are getting the good government they deserve,” Schultz said in an email. “The Administration supports the work and commitment of all of the IG Offices, including those currently being led by Acting IGs, as they strive to ensure that taxpayers are getting the good government they deserve.”

Aaron Klein Breaking News Site:

Aaron Klein, WND: Obama’s China adviser, Evan Medeiros

Background rumors:  China makes defective parts for American weapons….

“…Medeiros was appointed as China director of the White House National Security Council in 2009…
“In his most recent ‘Inside the Ring’ column in the Washington Times, Bill Gertz cited congressional Republicans as identifying Medeiros as a key player involved in the Obama administration’s policy of refusing to sell needed arms to Taiwan.

“The same report blamed Medeiros for delaying the release of a second Pentagon report to Congress on the shifting air power balance in the Taiwan Strait.

“The Times also cited Republican staff aides and a defense official as stating they believe Medeiros is behind efforts to block the release to Congress of the Pentagon’s annual report on Chinese military power, completed months ago and due to Capitol Hill on March 1…”

Aaron Klein, WND: Soros Machine Swarms Murdoch, Generates Bogus News

“A slew of organizations funded by billionaire George Soros have been utilizing the alleged News of the World phone hacking scandal in the U.K. to call for investigations of News Corporation’s U.S. interests, particularly Fox News Channel.

“The Center for American Progress, heavily financed by Soros, said it gathered 12,000 signatures demanding to know whether News Corp. reporters violated U.S. law by obtaining phone records in the U.S.

“The center is reportedly highly influential in helping to craft White House policy. It is led by John Podesta, who served as co-chairman of Obama’s presidential transition team.

“Podesta this week told reporters his group wants the U.S. division of News Corp. probed for other possible offenses, including violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prosecutes for bribery of foreign officials.

“We’ve called attention to the fact that – News Corp. is a U.S.-based corporation; that could implicate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” he said.

“Already, Podesta’s signature drive was cited in part for Democratic Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Barbara Boxer sending a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting an investigation into claims News Corp. may have hacked the phones of 9/11 victims…”

Cokester’s Agenda?

Crash the budget with stubbornness, lack of preparation, and phony deadlines. Also, cripple the Pentagon, take away our oil, stiff the Brits, kiss the Chinese, hug the Jihadists, work the illegals for votes, cling to the teleprompter, and party on with Soros!

Consider Obama’s limited writing skills and impulsive moods as well  as his  flights, vacations, golf games, White House parties, political rallies, spending, and budgets…has it all been a high or satisfying parts of his brain that want to get that way? Solinas says some useful things…

“In this study, we first exposed mice to drugs and induced addiction-related behaviors and only afterward exposed them to enriched environments. We found that 30 days of environmental

enrichment completely eliminates behavioral sensitization and conditioned place preference to cocaine. In addition, housing mice in enriched environments after the development of conditioned place preference prevents cocaine-induced reinstatement of conditioned place preference and reduces activation of the brain circuitry involved in cocaine-induced reinstatement.”

Background: Marcello Solinas, et al, (2008) Reversal of cocaine addiction by environmental enrichment. Proceedings National Academy Science. 105(44), 17145–17150.

Meanwhile, in August 2010:

“President Barack Obama signed sweeping reforms to federal crack cocaine sentencing laws , reducing harsh sentences for crack violations and repealing the five-year mandatory minimum for simple possession of crack cocaine. The bipartisan bill received support from Sens. Richard Durbin, Jeff Sessions, Tom Coburn, and Reps. James E. Clyburn, Robert C. “Bobby” Scott, Dan Lungren and F. James Sensenbrenner.

And in June 2011:

Associated Press: “New crack cocaine sentencing law could cut jail time for 12,000 inmates”

“Obama Strategy Guts U.S. Armed Services”

Report: ‘Hollow force’ would involve ‘fewer personnel, reduced readiness’

Washington Examiner: What’s Obama Have against Texas?

“The one bright spot in the national economic picture is Texas, which has an economy busting out all over with new jobs. Nearly half of the estimated quarter-million new jobs that have been created since February 2009 were created in Texas. But Obama seems determined to use suffocating bureaucracy to bring Texas down with the rest of the country.”

Human Events: Top Ten Obama Lies

Thanks Ted,

President Obama is becoming a veritable Pinocchio by stretching the truth on a regular basis. Here are the Top 10 Obama Lies.
1. Americans want higher taxes: During the debate over raising the debt ceiling, President Obama said that 80% of Americans support including higher taxes as part of the deal. But a Rasmussen poll taken the same week showed that only 34% believe a tax hike should be included in a debt-ceiling agreement.
2. Mother denied health insurance: During his presidential campaign, Obama said that his mother died of cancer after being denied coverage for a preexisting condition. He used her image in a campaign ad, repeated the claim in debates, and used the same rhetoric as President when he tried to sell ObamaCare to the American people. But a new book by New York Times reporter Janny Scott says that Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, had health insurance through her employer and was only denied disability insurance.
3. Tax restraint for middle and lower class: Obama pledged during his campaign and throughout his presidency not to raise taxes on families making less than $250,000. But ObamaCare’s individual mandate will hit many under the $250,000 mark. (Obama’s own Justice Department said the mandate was a tax, not a penalty, when it argued its constitutionality.) Not to mention a higher federal cigarette tax and countless other “fees” in the health care law that hit the middle and lower class.
4. Shovel-ready jobs: When Obama was selling his $787 billion stimulus package, he consistently bragged about how shovel-ready construction jobs would be funded across the nation. Even the President later admitted that was a lie, when he told the New York Times: “There’s no such thing as shovel-ready projects.”
5. Keep your doctor: President Obama repeatedly pledged that under his health care measure, Americans would be able to keep their doctors. However, with rising costs, many employers will dump their health care plans and force workers into the state health care exchanges (unless you belong to one of the unions getting ObamaCare waivers.) A survey by McKinsey & Company found that more than 30% of companies will discontinue coverage for their workers.
6. No lobbyists: During the 2008 presidential campaign, Obama said: “We have the chance to tell all those corporate lobbyists that the days of them setting the agenda in Washington are over. … I don’t take a dime of their money, and when I am President, they won’t find a job in my White House.” At least a dozen former lobbyists got top jobs in his administration at the beginning of his presidency, according to Politico, and National Public Radio reported the Obama administration was granting waivers to lobbyists to circumvent the ban.
7. Foreign money in campaigns: During his 2010 State of the Union address, and again during the 2010 midterm elections, Obama railed against foreign money influencing U.S. elections. The only problem was that there was no evidence to support the charge or, as Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, in the State of the Union audience, silently mouthed, “Not true.”
8. Arizona immigration law: During the battle over Arizona’s immigration law, President Obama said: “Now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you can be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen.” Uh, actually, Mr. President, it couldn’t. The law would allow law enforcement officials to inquire about immigration status only when there is suspicion of a crime being committed.
9. Transparency: Obama pledged that transparency would be a top priority, but his administration refused to grant one-third of the Freedom of Information Act requests, according to an Associated Press analysis. He also was dishonest about transparency when he said that health-care negotiations would be televised on C-SPAN and that he would wait five days to sign a bill so people would have a chance to read it online.
10. Constitutional oath: During his January 2009 inauguration, Barack Obama pledged to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” yet he has consistently ignored the 10th Amendment giving powers not enumerated in the Constitution to the states. Exhibit No. 1: ObamaCare.

Skip Brion: County Human Services Unionization Halted

“As you may know, last night, employees of the Chester County Department of Human Services voted overwhelmingly against unionization. Although the majority of the credit is due to those county employees who voted against unionizing, our Republican Commissioners, Terence Farrell and Ryan Costello, played a key role in the decision making process. Their leadership during these discussions should be commended.

“Please visit our blog to view the press release for more information on the vote as well as the following link which will take you to the Daily Local News coverage of the failed measure.

“This is a big win for taxpayers, but the hard work and dedication of our government employees should not be overlooked. We owe them our gratitude for not only their recent decision, but also for all they do to serve the citizens of our great County.”
