Kim Strassel, WSJ: Public Option a Decoy
I said it earlier but not nearly so well. From Lou Flanagan:
“If Mr. Reid had pulled the plug on the public option, these highly unpopular policy issues would be front and center. As it is, the public-option sideshow is sucking up all the air, and will continue to. It even overshadowed liberal divisions, such as union pushback on Cadillac-plans taxes. Maybe, just maybe, Mr. Reid likes it that way.”

Karl Rove: PA Supreme Court
Thanks Bob Guzzardi
“…the Republican-endorsed candidate for Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court, Judge Joan Orie Melvin, is mounting a strong effort against Democrat Jack Panella, despite a $1 million ad blitz targeting her that’s bankrolled by Philadelphia trial lawyers. A GOP victory would indicate trouble for Democrats in a state Mr. Obama carried by 10 points.”

Feds: House Resolution 554: Let Freedom Ring
For our grandkids: “In June, we let you know that Representatives John Culberson (R-TX) and Brian Baird (D-WA) introduced a resolution, H.Res 554, that would change House rules to require all major bills to be posted online publicly for at least 72 hours before they are debated.
“Essentially: a ‘Read the Bill’ resolution.
“Well, today, members of Congress filed a “discharge petition” in the House regarding that resolution, and if the petition gets 218 signatures in the House, leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer will be required to schedule H.Res 554 for a vote on the House floor.”

Black Chopper to Dover
10/29/09: BHO flew in the night from the White House to Dover Air Force Base and was photographed, standing at attention and saluting, as a casket passed. Sincere? Certainly. But to what end? Does he honor our dead while destroying the republic they defended? Sorry, gang. I do not trust him to be worthy of the people he commands…
Stephen E. Barrar: About Our ‘Corns
Thanks Paula Stiles,
“…It is unfortunate when organizations that were founded to positively impact their communities veer so far from their intended course, but that is clearly what has happened to ACORN. With allegations of illegal activities and election fraud mounting against ACORN, I applaud the United States House and Senate for taking action to eliminate federal funding for this group. Our nation cannot sit by and allow publicly funded organizations to operate outside the scope of the laws that maintain our civil society.
“Regrettably, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives refused to follow its federal counterpart and take the appropriate action against ACORN. On Sept. 17, I offered an amendment that would have denied public funding for partisan political organizations. Unfortunately, my calls for the responsible use of taxpayer dollars were ignored and the amendment was not considered by the Democrat-controlled House. …Stephen E. Barrar is a Republican representing the 160th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.” Lots more at

Lord Monckton: U.S. Sovereignty & Climate Change
A parallel script to health care, the U.N. folks want world government and compensation from the U.S. to the nations hurt by our economic success. At this time, BO will not attend Copenhagen but could send designees with authority to sign a treaty which would later need 2/3rds of the Senate to confirm it.

Bigger Is Different, Not Better
Collectivists argue that power and influence are possible only for large organizations. As Thomas Sowell observed, they believe in super governments, the perfectibility of human organizations but not human individuals, and they have no need for a God. They develop their belief early, pursue it rigorously, and impose it on everyone…especially when they are either boss or within a step or two of becoming boss.
(Collectivism is most rigid in hard times and it is the collectivist advantage to find and amplify crises.)
Individualists find opportunity in the differences between people and situations. They believe that nations grow from the bottom-up and that God created not only virtue but also differences in how we each pursue it.*
Individualists now face the decision to merge into a larger group and, more importantly, how much to merge. (Or even to join with the intention of taking over the larger group!)
Some of the collectivists discover a “necessity” to interact with equally sized government bodies. I disagree and suggest that we continue to respect both our conservative nature and that of our founders who gave us a “republic” of mutually influential partners. If you want gangs of collectivists, find them in the parking lot!
Becoming collectivists gives us one more big government, big business, big law, or big religion. Each tries to become dominant, form partnerships, and oppress us more surely as our computers replace the radios that Hitler once gave to German families.**
A book for “Aha!”: Sowell, T. (2002) A Conflict of Visions: Ideological Origins of Political Struggles. NY: Basic Books. Paper. About $20 new, as little as $2.50 on Alibris.com. Another steal, Sowell’s Black Rednecks, White Liberals. Hardback, about $5 at Alibris.

While I am – through no fault of rearing – an agnostic, I often have more patience with believers than with atheists. The outcome of my convictions is that I have very few friends! One of my best was Fred Hussey, a defender not only of his God but also of the science He made. Fred died just a few weeks ago.)

November 14, 2009 Taxpayers March on Harrisburg
“The recent Pennsylvania budget fiasco illustrates that Pennsylvania taxpayers deserve better stewards of public monies. Years of unfulfilled promises and irresponsible spending have brought Pennsylvania to its current fiscally precarious condition. In times of economic hardship, everyday citizens have shown the ability to adapt by tightening their belts and making responsible choices. We expect our lawmakers in the state house to do the same. Hundreds of citizens will be at the capitol to make their voices heard.”
